Curricular Activities
Department of Youth Welfare & Cultural Activities provides a platform to the students to present and to groom their talents and leadership qualities. It also plays a significant role in preserving and promoting rich cultural heritage of Punjab among the Youth.
Khalsa College Amritsar is one of the pioneer institutes which contributed in the development of theatre in Punjab. It has produced various theatre personalities like Balraj Sahni, Gurdial Singh Phul, Dr. Harcharan Singh, Kewal Dhaliwal and Dr. Atamjeet Singh to name the few. In present times theatre and TV artists like Rajiv Thakur, Chandan Parbhakar, Rajiv Dhingra, Emanuel, Rajbir Kaur, Mannat Singh, Mukesh Vohra, Ramesh, Dinesh and Mandeep Ghai are performing in various serials and TV shows. Eminent folk singers like Amrinder Gill and Lakhwinder Vadali groomed their talent on the stage of the college.
College has also represented State of Punjab in National Youth Festival at various times in Folk Dance and Theatre and it is the only college of Punjab which has won 1st position in National Youth Festival in Folk Dance category and two time remained runners up. Khalsa College has also won 1st position in Theatre in Punjab Intervarsity Youth Festival. It has won Champion and runners up trophy in Youth Zonal Festivals for number of times.
College Bhangra & Gidda Team and Folk orchestra team have performed in various films and world meets and has toured various countries in the recent pasts.
In year 2013, apart from talent search programme – “Parakh”, the department has prepared various teams for University Youth Festival. College “Jhoomer” team won 1st position in Folk Dance and has also performed at Bhangra Olympiad held at GNDU and at National Theatre Festival organized by NSD. College Folk orchestra also performed at World Kabbadi Tournament. The Department organized three cultural functions in this year which includes, Lokrang, Khushamdeed and in honour of NAAC Peer Team.
